I'm glad my antique car has 4 wheel disc brakes

I was doing about 40 down the road I live on and I had a full size deer jump out in front of me only giving me a few feet to slow down. The scariest part is that I pushed the brake pedal down as far as it would go and I didn’t lock em’ up. Even with the 13 year old uniroyal tigerpaws gripping the tar and gravel road. So yeah I might need to look at the brakes next.

This also proves that a loud car doesn’t keep wild animals away.

My 4runner with drums in the back stops well. ABS works sometimes

Sounds fun. A couple years ago I attended the prestigious Eyes on Design show, wherein someone had driven their pristine early 60's Cadillac from the Toronto area to Detroit, and hit a deer on the way. It still went into the show, but they put a sign on it to the effect of “LOL deer amirite”.

Scary ish.

On a related note, I’m halfway through replacing the drums and shoes on my F-100. The brakes are decently strong as-is, but I’m excited to see if they’ll get better with new equipment.

Do deer whistles work?

I don’t think it’s been proven that work but it also hasn’t been proven that they don’t work. But I will say as someone who lives in the country I’m seeing less and less deer whistles all the time.

Just wondering what your thoughts are on this.

Deer, because having a nice car in the country is tough.

Alfas normally stop pretty good. Sounds like a detailed inspection is in order.

Hard stops in the wet or on loose surfaces have a bit of lock but it’s perfectly straight and predictable. I never really have needed the ABS, it’s more of a “does it work?” It works when it feels like it.

Replace the brake hoses? Check for leaks too.
